This privacy policy ("Privacy Policy") describes how Honey Insurance Pty Ltd ("Honey," "us," and "we") collects, uses and shares information (including personal information) of users of our Honey Smart Home mobile application ("Application"), and smart home system consisting of sensors and a bridge, collectively referred to as the "System". What Information We Collect And How We Collect It

Information You Provide

We may collect personal information from you, such as:

  • Your first and last name, email address, address, phone number and password when you create an account
  • Feedback or communications via email, including your name, email address and any content included in the email
  • Your general location, such as your postcode or IP address
  • Precise geolocation information when you authorise our App to access your location
  • Other information you voluntarily provide, including transaction information, usage information, and marketing preferences
Information Collected via the Sensors

We collect data from several sensors built into the System. These sensors may collect data such as: acceleration, moisture, sound, temperature, light, orientation, natural frequency and proximity. This information is only used for the function, operation and improvement of the System. For example, this data is used to notify you of events such as when a door opens, if your house is getting too hot or cold, if a smoke alarm is sounding,if there is a water leak or if there is a risk of mould detected. We associate the model and serial number, software version, and technical information of your Sensors with your personal information to improve your experience and troubleshoot problems.

Information Collected When You Connect the Bridge

To access your System over the Internet, you will need to connect it to a Wi-Fi network. During setup, the System will connect to the Internet. It will save this information on the device, along with your IP address, to allow you to access and control it remotely and to communicate with servers for software updates. Once connected to a Wi-Fi network, your System regularly sends information described in this Privacy Policy (excluding your Wi-Fi password) to Honey to provide you with the services below:

  1. Monitoring and Detection: The sensors collect data on acceleration, moisture, sound, temperature, light, orientation, natural frequency and proximity to detect events in your home.
  2. Notification Services: They send alerts about specific events such as when doors or windows open, if your house temperature becomes too hot or cold, if smoke alarms are sounding, or if water leaks or mould risks are detected.
  3. Home/Away Status: Using geolocation data (with your permission), the system determines whether you're at home or away to adjust notifications and monitoring accordingly.
  4. Data Collection for System Improvement: The sensors collect technical information that helps improve system functionality and troubleshoot problems.
  5. Insurance Program Eligibility: Data from the sensors is used to determine eligibility for insurance smart home discount programs and other insurance benefits.
Home or Away Information

The System may determine whether you or other users are at home or away by using precise geolocation services on your mobile device. This requires location services to be enabled in the app. You can disable this feature by turning off location services in the app or on your mobile device.

Information We Get from Other Sources

We may receive personal information about you from third-party sources, such as:

  • Business partners who share your contact information
  • Insurance companies and home services companies
  • Marketing and advertising partners
  • Social media platforms
  • Publicly-available sources and data providers
Information We Get From Other Individuals

As part of our services, you may set up alert lists with individuals who will receive alerts regarding the System. We may collect personal information about each alert contact, such as their name, email address and phone number. We will then automatically send an invitation to the contact on your behalf. You may only provide us this information if you have permission from the relevant individual.

You may also invite other people to share access to your content. These secondary operators (called "managers") must create their own account linked to the owner's account and agree to the Terms of Use.

Information Collected via Technology

When you use our services, we, our service providers, and business partners may automatically collect information about you, including:

  • Device type, Open Device Identification Number, date/time stamps for your visit, unique device identifier, browser type, operating system, IP address
  • General location information
  • Information about your use of and actions on the services
  • Information about the site you came from and visit after
  • App download information and usage statistics

We use log files to improve our services, for market research, to better tailor our services to users' needs, to monitor for security intrusions, and to identify and fix bugs.

We may collect information using cookies, browser web storage, web beacons, pixels, tags, APIs, and similar technologies. These technologies help us provide you with a more personal and interactive experience on our site and tailor advertising to your preferences.

We use analytics services to help analyse how users use our site and app.

Our services allow you to connect and share content, data and other information. Information in your account may be shared with your authorised users. Please be mindful of your privacy needs when choosing what to share. We cannot control information you share with outside parties for purchase, installation, or service of your device.

We may disclose aggregated information that does not identify individuals without restriction. We may disclose personal information:

  • To fulfil the purpose for which you provide it or with your consent
  • To third parties you designate, including insurance companies and home service companies
  • With our subsidiaries and affiliates

Information is shared between the Sensors and Bridge, including locally among devices, via your Application, or on Honey's servers.


Your Rights And Choices

Choosing Not To Share Your Personal Information

Where we require your personal information by law or to provide services, if you do not provide this information, we may not be able to provide our services to you.

Opt Out of Marketing Communications

You may opt out of marketing emails by following the opt-out instructions in our emails or by contacting us at support@honeyinsurance.com. For marketing text messages or phone calls, you may opt out by replying STOP or by contacting us at support@honeyinsurance.com. You may still receive non-marketing service emails.

Access, Correct, Delete, or Update Your Information

You may request to access, correct, delete, or update personal information by emailing support@honeyinsurance.com.com. We will honour your request, though some information may be kept to comply with legal obligations. We may retain archived records as required by law or for legitimate business purposes.

Privacy Settings and Location Data

You can opt-out of providing personal information by uninstalling the app. You can also control whether the app accesses your precise location data through your device settings.


Information Security And Retention

We use security technologies and procedures to protect your personal information from loss, misuse, and unauthorised access or disclosure. While we use reasonable efforts to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

We retain your personal information for as long as necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, to comply with legal obligations, and in accordance with our retention policies. Sharing Outside Of Australia

If your personal information is collected or supplied to an organisation outside of Australia we will ensure it will be held, used or disclosed only in accordance with the Privacy Act. App Store Compliance

Our Honey Smart Home app available through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store complies with their respective privacy requirements. We do not use information collected through these platforms for any purpose beyond the scope of improving your experience with our app and providing our services as outlined in this Privacy Policy.


Marketing

We may contact you with news, information and special offers. If you are a user of our products or services, you consent to us sending you such information by means of telemarketing, email, SMS, and other digital channels. You can opt out of marketing communications as described in the "Opt Out of Marketing Communications" section above.
